When an actor is accused of groping, an audience can boycott his movies. When a politician engages in lewd behavior, he can be voted out of office. A famous architect, however, has his presence stamped all over the skyline, and turning away isn’t so easy.

This week, Richard Meier was the subject of a front-page story in the New York Times in which five women accused the Pritzker Prize-winning architect of a longstanding pattern of sexual harassment. The report prompted an apology from Meier, and he declared he would take a six-month leave of absence from the firm he founded. But for developers and brokers banking on the starchitect’s name to market their projects, the headaches may have just begun.

It’s a super sensitive issue, and I think that it’s so politically charged right now that if a developer had a project coming out, they would probably try to minimize Meier’s connection to it because it’s raw and new,” said Stephen Kliegerman, who oversees new development marketing at Halstead Property and Brown Harris Stevens.

Meier has at least two major new projects in New York City in the works, Sheldon Solow’s 685 First Avenue — a 596-unit condo tower that topped out late last year — and One Waterline Square[……]

New York City real estate players will have to adjust the schmooze settings on their phones in Las Vegas this year several of the biggest parties at ICSC have been canceled.

Whether it s a cautious mood in response to the #MeToo movement, a lack of enthusiasm due to the retail slump, penny-pinching, or simply a return to more intimate corporate bonding, a handful of New York s real estate firms are not holding large parties this year.

The four-day conference kicks off Sunday and tens of thousands of attendees will arrive in Las Vegas, but many of New York s retail kings are also staying home due to religious conflicts.

RKF, which in the past has hosted parties at clubs along the strip, is one notable firm not hosting a bash in 2018.

“We are not having a party this year, [we] decided to do small client dinners instead,” an RKF spokesperson said.

Law firm Fried Frank and brokerages Winick Realty Group and Eastern Consolidated also won t be throwing any parties during the world s largest retail conference this year.

According to insiders, the main event for New Yorkers this year is Newmark Knight Frank s party at the Marquee, an event that typically attracts thousands. Other big parties to check out are the Related Companies Hudson Yards event at Nobu Villa in Caesars Palace and NY Developers’ party poolside at the Bellagio hotel.

MGM Resorts International has sued more than 1,000 victims of last year s mass shooting at a Las Vegas festival, claiming it has no liability in the injury or deaths that occurred when a gunman opened fire from inside the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

In the lawsuit filed Friday in federal court in Nevada and California, the Mandalay Bay owner says a 2002 federal act limits the hotel’s liability, Bloomberg reported. The act, named the Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies, protects companies that use “anti-terrorism” technology or services to respond “to acts of mass injury and destruction.”

MGM is one of the most prominent hotel owners on the Las Vegas Strip. In addition to the Mandalay Bay — and the concert venue that held the festival — the company owns the MGM Grand, The Mirage, Bellagio, Aria, Luxor, and Excalibur, among others. Outside of the city, it also owns the MGM National Harbor near Washington, D.C., MGM Grand Detroit and the MGM Macau in China.

After facing local resistance and a temporary work stoppage,上海千花网龙凤论坛 上海千花社区 Sun Equity Partners and Heskel Group are forging ahead with their retail development in Jackson Heights with the help of some new financing.

Los Angeles-based Calmwater Capital provided the developers with about $60 million in financing, according to city property records recorded on Friday. The loan includes a $29 million building loan and a $31 million refinanced loan, and replaces a 2016 loan from RWN Management worth $22 million.

In September, a local advocacy group backed by then-congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez managed to force a stop-work order for the site at 40-31 82nd Street, citing zoning violations. The order was rescinded two weeks later, after the developers fi上海夜网论坛 上海夜网led new plans.

Sun Equity and Heskel acquired the property for $27 million in 2016, with plans to build a 160,000-square-foot building. Plans for a 13-story residential tower above the retail portion of the site were scrapped after city officials withdrew their support for a proposed rezoning.
